Achievements

Since 2000, the Homelessness Partnering Strategy (and its predecessor the National Homelessness Initiative) have invested $4.8 million in our community.

Though partnership with all levels of government and the non-profit sector, the Homelessness Partner Strategy has leverage an additional $9.2 million dollar investment in our community for a total investment of $14 million dollars.

Soup Kitchen

The soup kitchen moved to its new location and currently serves over 35,000 meals per year.

Samaritan House Food Bank

A building was purchased to locate a food bank, a resource centre, and a skills literacy program. In 2010, the Samaritan House distributed 12,083 food hampers in our community.

C.M.H.A. - 1202 Rosser Ave.

The Canadian Mental Health Association, located at 1202 Rosser Avenue.

A condemned building in downtown Brandon has been renovated to include three self-contained emergency units, thirteen transitional housing units, and thirteen affordable housing units.

C.M.H.A. - Furniture Bank

The Canadian Mental Health Association Furniture Bank.

The second floor of the Building Material Outlet was restored to establish a furniture bank, which accepts furniture donations, takes referrals from outside agencies, and provides furniture free of charge to individuals in need.

YWCA Meredith Place

Three family emergency units and two counseling rooms were opened. Eighteen transitional housing units were enhanced to bring them up to code. Additionally, a new van was purchased to support the clients and facility.

Brandon Literacy Centre

A building was purchased and rejuvenated for the purpose of a skills development centre. The Centre’s curriculum includes classes entitled "Cooking on a Budget" and "Dressing on a Budget."

A new facility to include one emergency unit, eight transitional housing units, and four affordable housing units was developed. Uturn 3 is also the location of a skills development centre.

Massey Building

Three agencies: The Canadian Mental Health Association, The Brandon Friendship Centre, and Habitat for Humanity have partnered to renovate this building into 5 self-contained emergency units, 8 supportive housing units, 8 transitional housing units, 23 affordable housing units, and 14 condominiums. The renovations are expected to be complete in 2012.
